The 200 Hour Classical Mat Course

We are very excited to be offering this extensive Mat course that will teach the original exercises of Joseph Pilates along with influences from other archival figures

Our Pilates Teacher Training programmes are designed to provide you with an extensive understanding of the practice, helping you to become a knowledgeable and confident teacher.

Our studio is fully equipped with Legacy Apparatus.

Prerequisites: Classical Pilates Mat Teacher Training

To ensure a strong foundation and readiness for the demands of a comprehensive Classical Pilates Mat Teacher Training programme, applicants must meet the following prerequisites:

1. Minimum Classical Pilates Experience – 10 Hours

  • At least 10 hours of Classical Pilates mat or apparatus training must be completed prior to course start.

  • These hours must be taken with a Classical Pilates instructor. They can include:

    • Private sessions

    • Group classes

2. Consistent Personal Practice

  • A minimum of 3 months of regular Pilates practice (mat or equipment-based) is strongly recommended.

  • You should demonstrate familiarity with:

    • Classical order of mat exercises

3. Physical Readiness

  • Applicants should be in good physical health and able to safely participate in a movement-based training programme.

  • If you have injuries or limitations, a clearance from a medical professional may be required.

4. Interest in Classical Pilates Teaching

  • This programme is rooted in Classical Pilates methodology (Joseph Pilates’ original system).

  • Applicants should be open to learning and teaching this structured, lineage-based approach.

5. Maturity & Commitment

  • Applicants must be 18+ and demonstrate the commitment, discipline, and curiosity needed to complete an intensive teacher training course.

What you will learn:

You will learn the original 34 Classical exercises on The Mat

Our course is very hands on. 

From Day 1 you are encouraged to develop your own teaching voice. We dive straight into teaching the exercises, practising them in our own bodies and supporting our fellow Apprentices, as we observe them teach and practise. .

Workshop and course curriculum:

  • Overview of the Pilates Method

  • History and principles of Pilates

  • Key concepts: control, centring, concentration, precision, breath, and flow

Teaching:

  • Detailed study of the exercises on the Mat

  • Understanding the intentions of the exercises

  • Exercise transitions

  • Group teaching

  • Successful verbal cueing 

  • Hands-on teaching

  • Modifying exercises - Adjust Pilates exercises safely and effectively.  

  • Exercise variations

  • Progressing your clients 

  • Understanding different posture types and specialist populations  

  • Engage clients using effective communication techniques, adapt style to suit client needs and personalities.  

  • Provide motivational feedback and clear instruction. 

  • Responsibilities as a teacher  

Help and discussions on the subjects of: 

 

  • Taking care of yourself as a teacher 

  • Referring clients to health professionals when needed

  • PARQs and Health Questionairres

  • Understanding your limits and scope of practise  

  • Continual professional development

Theory via our online Apprentice hub:

  • The History of Pilates

  • Anatomy relevant to Pilates exercises- online learning

  • Common injuries and modifications for clients with specific conditions

  • 1 x Case Study

Expectations:

  • You are expected to practise daily or at least 2-3  times a week

  • Practice hours comprise of:

  • Practice teaching hours 

  • Personal workout hours

  • Observation hours - these must be taken at Trent Park Pilates or another recognised studio and watching Pilatesology and Pilates Anytime.

Assessment criteria available upon enquiry

  • Comprehensive assessment from a Level 3 assessor

  • Certificate of achievement from Trent Park Pilates

  • Become part of a supportive Apprentice community

  • Open studio policy to practise and observe at no additional charge

  • 10% discount on all classes

  • You will become a member of our Apprentice community, with the option of remaining part of the community as a TPP graduate, upon completion of the course.

Insurance 

Our apprentices obtain student insurance and then change it to teacher insurance once qualified. 

We recommend you obtain student insurance prior to starting the course, to support your training and practise teaching.

Our Teacher Training school is insured under the Balen’s Insurance Scheme to include the activities of a training school involved in delivering courses, CPD, certificates of competence and accreditations as agreed and approved by Balens Ltd.  Students can and have received student and teacher insurance through them

NPCP

Our school and training qualification is recognised by the NPCP, the National Pilates Certification Program. This was formerly known as the Pilates Method Alliance certification and is the largest verification body of Pilates Teachers in the world. 

Our graduates are invited to sit this separate exam which only certifies comprehensively and Mat trained Pilates Teachers by approved training centres - this is mostly recognise in the US but shows a level of study has been achieved to sit their test.
